Rides & Social Events

Well here we go again folks - another swaparoo for Sunday. 36 in Perth would be 40 degrees at Poppanyinning so I think everyone would be happier heading to the coast. M/tea after a wander down to Pinjarra Bakery then a quick flit across to Preston Beach, has air-con!  I've booked a table there and maybe we'll catch a sea breeze. No more changes - promise...
The ride will leave at the normal time of 9am.

I will let the group decide whether they want lunch at the Pingelly Tavern or the Popanyinning Burger van. It makes little difference to the ride as we go through Poppo.
We will meander down through the usual suspects (Kargotich general direction) then Del Park Rd to Dwellingup, but we won’t be stopping there, the riders who want a short ride can disappear at that point.
The hard men and girls will continue on to Boddington, which is our morning tea stop.
For those who need fuel we will ride the 12kms to Bannister, then back-track on the highway to the Dwarda turnoff, which will take us cross-country south of Wandering.
If no-one needs fuel there is a road that cuts across from Boddington to the Dwarda turnoff; from there we will head south-east, then true east to Popanyinning.
If lunch choice was the Burger Van then that will be it, otherwise we will continue on to the Pingelly Tavern (I don’t think we’ve been there before).
In any case there will be another fuel stop at Pingelly before we head back north-westerly through a back road that will bring us out on Brookton Hwy.
We will stop for a leg stretch at the ‘concrete seat’ as is our custom, then it’s a blast down the highway to Kelmscott.
Coffee to finish at the Ole Cafe on Brookton Highway (if it’s open) – if not, on to the Dome at Kelmscott.
Kilometre-age:     Armadale to Boddington, Bannister: around 150
Bannister to Pingelly (via Popanyinning): 100  (250 total).
                            Pingelly to Armadale: about 130

                            Round trip: 330 – 350.

About our Rides

From 1st of Aug 2018 new start location Rear carpark of Dome in Kelmscott.

Please review the Ride Calendar for Sunday ride start times, if a pre planned ride is not listed for that particular Sunday then the start time will be 9.00am for a decision on the day. Everybody is welcome. We are a very relaxed and friendly group at Armadale.

Below Suggestions for new riders, Also see Branch ride Guides in documents.

One of the biggest risk factors for those new to a group is feeling the need to keep up with faster riders. Stretching your comfort zone by trying to keep up may put you at risk. You should be able to ride near the speed limit (up to 100 -110kph on open roads) but there is no need to keep up if a gap is created; TEC (Tail End Charlie) will not overtake you and the corner markers will wait until TEC comes through, Don’t panic - resist the feeling of being pressured.

Above all, don’t speed trying to catch up!
