After several weeks of winter style weekends it was great news when Michael Schultz told us we were in for a great weekends weather for our three day ride to Busselton.
Friday morning was clear and sunny but the cool easterly breeze held sway for most of the day. Great to see Trish up and about after her hip operation when she came down with Dave to see us off. We were also joined by Wayne who rode with us until Waroona where he waved goodbye.
The ride to Busselton took most of the day with us arriving at 4.30pm. The eleven of us travelled to Dwellingup (morning tea), Nanga Rd, Waroona, Mornington Rd, Collie (lunch), Mumbullup then several back roads to just outside Bailingup. This is where my navigation skills left me and we missed a turn requiring some U/Three Point Turns before we regrouped. The run from Bailingup to Nannup (afternoon tea) was terrific as usual followed by a casual run up the Vasse Hwy to Busselton. Dinner that night was at the Esplanade Hotel just a short walk from the Kookaburra Caravan Park where most of us were staying. The pub has a very nice bistro and I think everyone really enjoyed there meals that night.
Saturday was wine tour day and we were picked up by Rich (Richard) from Margies Tours at about 10.30 am from the park. We were joined by a couple from Esperance who must of wondered what they had got themselves into after seeing us in the bus! Saturday night was Chinese at a restaurant in Busselton but I think most of us were worn out or full from the food etc. we had during the tour. Sunday morning was breakfast in the main street at Zen's once again, very good food and service, followed by a ride into Donnybrook for morning tea. Then onto Gnomesville so the Kiwi's could choose a couple of kids and Pinjarra for lunch before splitting up.
Having a couple of Kiwi's along called Chrus and Dub! Just love it when they were trying to get Deeeeeeeee's (that's Di if you are an Aussie) attention and Di not having a flipping clue what they were saying, priceless! These two are good value, hope they don't go back.
Josef, Mel and Di jostling for position so they could get the best view through the window of Chrus and Dub in their bedroom.
Realisation by the 5 people sharing a cabin that they have to go through the master bedroom to access the toilet, see above!
Understanding that pus is Kiwi for piss, Josef was very concerned for a while!
Christine turning up on Friday morning for the ride after returning from Los Angeles on late Thursday night!
The weather on Saturday for the wine tour was exceptional.
The wine tour itself was good value with a great lunch at the Bootleg Brewery. We also visited Hay Shed Hill Winery, Evans & Tate Winery and Windance Winery where all the people looking after us did a great job trying to educate us on the finer points of wine making and wines. Even though some of us couldn't get past comparing everything to Lambrusca!.
Our driver Rich who looked after us all day and joined in with jokes and frivolity of his own.
Having to witness what goes on during a Secret Mens Business Committee Meeting during dinner one night, look at the photo's!
Wine tasting in the garden at Windance with the sun filtering through the trees.
Seeing my first round pool table at the Bush Shack Brewery.
Sitting around enjoying our last round of drinks at the Bush Shack Brewery before heading home.
Checking out the people checking out the legs at the Cheese factory, you had to be there.
Having the tranquility shattered by John yelling "where's my phone", being told by four people to look in his jacket pocket while continuing to shout "where's my phone" until finally looking in his jacket pocket and finding it!
Spending 3 days with a great bunch of people.
